About Me

Hi, I'm Beleszove! I live in the Pacific NW of the US and love gardening, journaling, cooking, swimming in natural bodies of water, crafting herbal remedies, foraging, and making art. I have a beautiful Ginger cat, Lily and just recently lost my dog, Molly who was the love of my life (don't tell the cat who I also love dearly!) and it's been the hardest loss I've ever grieved.

Currently learning how to be better with watercolor. My current favorite mediums are acrylics, collage and neocolor IIs and I usually use them in a mixed media way.

I go through spurts of furious art-making, followed by months of not picking up a paintbrush. I'm hoping that joining swaps will give me an excuse to make art more consistently.

I love good strong coffee but equally good strong black tea (with rice milk). My favorite food is Green Chile Chicken Enchiladas, but I'm currently on a Greek salad kick. I've been making the same quinoa cornbread recipe several times per month for over 30 years tweaking the recipe to make it dairy free, then back to buttermilk, then gluten free; now I add a layer of cheese in the middle and it's to die for.

My favorite kind of music currently is South American Folktronica, but I enjoy a wide variety of genres. Currently I'm watching Modern Love, Amsterdam and think it's interesting to see how people in different countries approach relationships. I just finished reading The Emperor of Gladness by Ocean Vuong and loved how he creates beautiful, caring moments in a world filled with devastation.

Other fun facts about me:
* I love all things fabric, especially quilting and have 2 huge tubs of fabric and another one of yarn and another one of wool roving and have a fancy sewing machine, but I don't know how to sew and don't thing I have the patience for it. I go a long way with incorporating fabric into my art with fusible webbing! I have way more art and craft supplies than can be used in 1 lifetime. I prefer the term, "Possibilitarian" to hoarder!

*I've lived in 3 countries (US, France, Peru) and 5 US states (New York, New Mexico, Oregon, Colorado, Washington)

*I'm hoping to go on a nature journaling retreat to Greece in the fall, with funds from selling a bunch of stuff I no longer need

*I really want to move and to own my own home again. Somewhere peaceful, quiet, beautiful natural setting.

*I live in a big city but there's a pack of wild coyotes who regularly roam my neighborhood. It's weird to hear the roar of cars on the freeway and also howling coyotes

Likes/Dislikes

Teas: I am a tea afficionado and enjoy broadening my horizons. I love black, green, Oolong, White and herbal. I like tea blends with spices, fruits or flowers but have an allergic reaction to many added flavorings, even when it says, "all natural".

I like: surprises and enjoy things I would never have thought to pick for myself. That said, I also love non-"cutsey" themes of flowers, crystals, succulents, hummingbirds, all birds, dragonflies, zen themes, trees, animals, non-Christian spiritual but not religious, the unusual, quirky and unexpected and non-stereotypical imagery. Other things I'm into: tarot and oracle cards and other forms of divination, working with crystals on a metaphysical level, astrology that goes deeper than your sun sign (I have my sun and other planets in Pisces and Moon and Jupiter in Scorpio, which explains a LOT about how I move through the world). I like to make my own herbal home remedies- tinctures, herbal tea blends oils, salves etc. I collect blue and white ceramics and love blue and white chinosserie prints. I also collect teapots (esp. blue and white ones) and interesting wooden spoons. I like to collect beautiful things I actually use I don't resonate with skulls, gore, Girl Boss/hustle culture, Thomas Kincade style art, anything with AI imagery, patriotic themes

Things I collect

I love to collect beautiful things that I actually use. Currently I collect -crystals and prefer raw ones to those carved into shapes. I have several hundred and I display most of them on a 3 tiered shelf in my hallway in color groupings, but also have them all over the house. I like to mix them into vignettes with other things like moss, crystals, natural seed pods, feathers. - Interesting spoons for cooking and serving and also tea scoops. My favorite is a hand carved wooden cooking spoon I got from a thrift store for $1 I also love the little copper tea scoop w/ a crescent moon on 1 end - Blue and White pottery, mostly teapots -stickers I have been big time into journaling for several years and I use stickers and washi tape and colorful pens to decorate my pages before writing on them. I have way more stickers than I can count and have them well organized by theme in books with pouches. I really like beautiful and unique stickers, and I like to flip through old journals just to look at the spreads, rather than read what I wrote! I like to order stickers from other countries to find things that are unique but I also have a fair amount of happy planner type stickers which work pretty well for journaling rather than planning. -on a related note, I've recently switched over to fountain pens and so I have a nice little collection of colorful fountain pen inks (though too many in the turqoise family!) I have about 20 fountain pens but they are mostly inexpensive ones you get on Ali Express. I'm not really interested in fancy pens as much as gorgeous colors. I started this to try to transition away from using gel pens b/c I was going through them way too fast and not happy with how much non-recyclable plastic I was creating.
